Artist Ralph McQuarrie dies aged 82

Star Wars artist Ralph McQuarrie has died aged 82. The artist helped George Lucas bring Stars Wars to the big screen. Ralph worked on the original Battlestar Galactica TV series, Cocoon and Steven Spielberg films E.T. he won an Oscar. The conceptual designer created the look of characters as Darth Vader, Chewbacca and R2-D2 with C-3PO.

Artist also animated US TV network CBS’s coverage of Nasa’s Apollo space programme. McQuarrie began his career as a technical illustrator for aeroplane manufacturer Boeing and designing film posters. He was hired by Lucas to design of the characters and scenes for his ‘space opera’ Star Wars in 1975.

The desert planet Tatooine, McQuarrie did the conceptual drawings for many characters. His rewards included an uncredited role in the The Empire Strikes Back, General Pharl McQuarrie and his own action figure. He was presented with an Academy Award for the film Cocoon.

The residents of an old people’s home gave a new lease of life in 1985. Lucas said “His genial contribution in the form of unequalled production paintings, propelled the entire cast of the original Star Wars trilogy.’

We wanted to make sure since you love cars that when you’re on the road you are always environmentally friendly. We decided to get you a car that would make you stand out. I think you know where I’m going and you’re kind of freaking out right now.’

Celebrities Leonardo DiCaprio and Ashton Kutcher have also taken delivery of the trendy supercar. The $100,000 Fisker Karma has a 2 litre, 4 hybrid engine and more than competes with typical gas guzzling sports cars. It can go from 0-60 miles per hour in under 6 seconds with a top speed of 125 miles per hour. Luxurious touches include keyless entry, bucket seats and diamond dust in the paint. The car can use the energy captured by the roof to assist the lithium ion batteries in powering the dual electric motors. it can do an economical 100 miles per gallon. Justin’s new luxury car joins his £100,000 customised Range Rover which had a sound system worth £50,000, leather interior, modified paintwork and a Cosworth engine.
